Week 6 College Football TV Schedule – Sponsored by whatever people are doing to help the people in South Carolina

Let’s be honest. I love college football and I am assuming most of the people who read this site love college football. Saying that, the floods in South Carolina are causing some real major damage. Homes have been destroyed, people have died and some areas of the state (especially along the coast) are a mess. Even though Williams-Brice Stadium looked fine, it’s probably a good thing the LSU-South Carolina game was moved. The people in that area have other, more important, things to think about.

Saying that, I find it odd there is not a single stadium other than Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge, the home of those very same LSU Tigers, that could host this game. It sucks that the Gamecocks have a home game technically when in reality, it’s an LSU home game. I am glad to see a lot of the money will be going back to South Carolina for this game. All in all, it’s a bad situation and they are making the best of it.

Which brings me to the college football television schedule. On a good week, Rogers and Bell (and sometimes TSN) struggle to get their schedules ready (which is mind-boggling). With this big wrinkle, it could be very interesting. At least this time, I won’t blame any of them since this is totally out of their hands. Let’s get to the cable schedule and we can start delving into this deeper:

ROGERS FIBE SATELLITE
October-09-15 Southern Miss at Marshall (Fri) 7:00 PM CBSSN X X
October-10-15 Oklahoma vs. Texas (in Dallas) 12:00 PM ABC/TSN5 X X X

October-10-15 Duke at Army 12:00 PM CBSSN X X
October-10-15 Indiana at Penn State 12:00 PM TSN3 X X X
October-10-15 Virginia at Pittsburgh 12:30 PM WSBK X X X
October-10-15 Wisconsin at Nebraska 3:30 PM ABC X X X
October-10-15 Northwestern at Michigan 3:30 PM BTN X
October-10-15 Georgia at Tennessee 3:30 PM CBS X X X
October-10-15 Syracuse at USF 3:30 PM CBSSN X X
October-10-15 Georgia Tech at Clemson (hopefully moved to specialty pack) 3:30 PM
October-10-15 Navy at Notre Dame 3:30 PM NBC X X X
October-10-15 LSU vs. South Carolina (in Baton Rouge) 3:30 PM TSN5 X X X
October-10-15 Boise State at Colorado State 7:00 PM CBSSN X X
October-10-15 TCU at Kansas State 7:30 PM FOX X X X
October-10-15 Miami at Florida State 8:00 PM ABC X X X
October-10-15 Michigan State at Rutgers 8:00 PM BTN X
October-10-15 Utah State at Fresno State 10:30 PM CBSSN X X

The LSU-South Carolina game was moved from noon to 3:30. This poses a problem as I am under the assumption that the only place to put them is on the SEC Network. This causes the following:

  • Originally the game was on TSN2 at noon.  This means TSN will have a 3.5 hour timeslot with pretty much nothing to fill it.  They could move another game into that spot (NMSU-Ole Miss from the SEC Network or Illinois-Iowa from ESPNU) but this filters down to the specialty packs and their inability to schedule games if they don’t know what’s on TSN.
  • The game is now at 3:30.  TSN2 could still show it.  All they have at this point is that SC show (which is garbage filler) for two hours followed by a Champions League show.  The problem comes from the fact that the NASCAR pre-show goes from 6 until 7.  CFL starts on the other four TSNs at 7 as well.  You see how this is starting to fall apart now right?
  • They could move this game to the specialty pack.  My assumption is that, despite the fact it’s not a true SEC Network timeslot, it will go there.  This would make the Troy-Mississippi State game go to the SEC Network Alternate channel in the States.  Bell is odd with how they pick up the alternate games.  Most of the time they do but every so often they don’t.

Update: We already have an update on this. Illinois-Iowa has moved to ESPN2 from ESPNU, maybe to eventually free up ESPNU for LSU-South Carolina. This means the reverse mirror will be between ABC and ESPN3. For us, that shouldn’t matter a whole lot since I assume TSN5 will continue with Georgia Tech-Clemson.

Update #2: UConn-UCF has moved to ESPNEWS. Now that could cause issues since we very rarely get ESPNEWS games in this area. This is becoming a bit of a nightmare. Also, Tulane-Temple has moved up from ESPNEWS at noon to ESPNU so it may appear on the specialty pack guide as early as tomorrow morning.

So, in conclusion, it’s a shitshow. Now on to the specialty pack schedule:

ROGERS FIBE SATELLITE
October-08-15 South Carolina State at Bethune-Cookman (Thu) 7:30 PM X X X
October-08-15 SMU at Houston (Thu) 8:00 PM X X X
October-08-15 Washington at USC (Thu) 9:00 PM X X X
October-09-15 NC State at Virginia Tech (Fri) 8:00 PM X X X
October-10-15 Illinois at Iowa (moved to TSN2) 12:00 PM
October-10-15 New Mexico State at Ole Miss 12:00 PM X X
October-10-15 Virginia at Pittsburgh 12:30 PM X X X
October-10-15 Wake Forest at Boston College 3:00 PM X X X
October-10-15 Minnesota at Purdue 3:30 PM X X X
October-10-15 Connecticut at UCF (no longer on specialty pack) 3:45 PM
October-10-15 Troy at Mississippi State 4:00 PM X X
October-10-15 Arkansas at Alabama 7:00 PM X X X
October-10-15 Oklahoma State at West Virginia 7:00 PM X X X
October-10-15 East Carolina at BYU 7:30 PM X X
October-10-15 Florida at Missouri 7:30 PM X X
October-10-15 California at Utah 10:00 PM X X X
October-10-15 Wyoming at Air Force 10:15 PM X X X

Another shitshow now. Be ready for a few updates throughout the rest of the day and tomorrow. No point analyzing it. I can get to the games of the week at least since they haven’t changed.

Update #3: Washington-USC is only on SD for Bell Fibe customers at this point.  Don’t know why they are showing hockey on the HD feed.  Haven’t got an answer yet.

Update #4: Illinois-Iowa & UConn-UCF not showing on Rogers Super Sports Pack.  Wisconsin-Nebraska added at 3:30 despite the fact it’s on ABC.  As of this point, no other changes for Bell.  I will update again tonight if need be.

Update #5: I sincerely hope this is the last update.  OK, Tulane-Temple has been added to the specialty pack.  That’s because Illinois-Iowa was moved to TSN2.  Somehow Wisconsin-Nebraska is still on ABC and the specialty pack.  I hope they switch the specialty pack to Georgia Tech-Clemson like they should.  UConn-UCF is gone since it’s now on ESPNEWS.  LSU-South Carolina on TSN5 which bumped GT-CLEM into the ether.  Everything else is fine…for now.  It is only 10:20 so a lot could change.

Games o’ the Week

California at Utah (10:00, specialty pack) – Does this tell you a) how crazy this season has been and b) how lacklustre this week’s schedule is (to an extent)? Hell, College GameDay is in Salt Lake City Saturday morning. I still believe both teams will falter at some point during the season and drop towards mid-table in the Pac-12. But for now, let these two teams bask in the glory of game of the week and some #Pac12AfterDark.

Northwestern at Michigan (3:30, Big Ten Network) – So of course the second biggest game of the week can’t be seen by any Bell customer. Just perfect. This will be interesting as it’s two teams who were supposed to be better this season but not THIS much better. Let’s see if Michigan can shutout a third straight team (Spoiler alert: they won’t).

Illinois at Iowa (3:30, specialty pack) – OK this is just getting bizarre. If at any point during the off-season you had said these three games would be the games of the week, I would have asked who your dealer was. Iowa was supposed to be good but Illinois has come alive under Bill Cubit (except for that one disaster of a game against North Carolina). One team basically clinches bowl-eligibility here. Insane.

Navy at Notre Dame (3:30, NBC) – Navy comes in undefeated and the Irish are off a heartbreaking loss to Clemson. Something has to give. If the Middies can somehow pull this out, they probably jump into the driver’s seat for the Group of Five spot. Also of note, we may not see the start of this game, depending on what happens with President’s Cup coverage on NBC.

Oklahoma State at West Virginia (7:00, specialty pack) – The Pokes have to keep winning and stay relevant. They have big games still to go with Baylor, TCU, and of course the Bedlam game against Oklahoma. There is almost no chance they win all three so they need to win every other game to have an outside shot at the New Year’s Six.

TCU at Kansas State (7:30, FOX) – Another huge Big XII affair. We can expect at least one every week for the rest of the season. Papa Snyder’s Wildcats have made a name for themselves as giant-killers. They are usually good for one upset a season. TCU better be careful since I think K-State’s D is slightly better than Texas Tech’s.

Gambling, gambling, gambling

I would say most people gamble in some form. Why is it that betting on sports is looked down upon, yet fantasy sports seems to be the best thing ever? Don’t get it. Anyway, here are my picks of the week:

Utah over Cal

Northwestern over Michigan

Iowa over Illinois

Notre Dame over Navy

Oklahoma State over West Virginia

TCU over Kansas State

Missouri over Florida (SEC East chaos indeed)

Florida State over Miami (#FireAlGolden)

Ole Miss to put at least 60 on New Mexico State

Oklahoma will barely beat Texas because the Red River Shootout is like that

I will try my best to keep things updated until Saturday morning. I am guessing I will be missing at least an hour or two of the noon games and hopefully not a whole lot more. I hate getting roped into things last minute but if it’s for my kids I am more than happy to fill in when needed.

The NFL Schedule will appear tomorrow as per usual.
