Week 6 NFL Schedule – Sponsored by those damn Cowboys….they’re baaaaaaaack (maybe)

Miss me?
Miss me?

I can’t believe Jerry Jones’ Cowboys are 4-1.  FOUR.  AND.  ONE.  Ugh.  Cowboys fans are almost as bad as fans of at least half of the SEC teams.  When they’re good, they tell you how good they are more than you want to hear.  I will have to give them their due though; they are playing well enough to win.  This weekend might be a little (read: a lot) tougher though.  Let’s take a look at the broadcast schedule for this week:

Thursday
8:30 Indianapolis at Houston CBS (all)/NFLN/SNE/SNO/SNW/SNP
Sunday
1:00 Jacksonville at Tennessee N/A
1:00 Baltimore at Tampa Bay N/A
1:00 Denver at NY Jets CBS (BC, Alberta, Northern Ontario, Eastern Ontario (except Ottawa and Peterborough), Quebec, Eastern Canada)/TSN1/TSN3/TSN4/TSN5
1:00 Detroit at Minnesota FOX (Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Northwestern Ontario, Western Ontario, Midwestern Ontario, Ottawa)/CTV (Winnipeg)
1:00 New England at Buffalo FOX (Northern Ontario, Golden Horseshoe, GTA, Eastern Ontario (except Ottawa), Quebec, Eastern Canada)/CTV (Toronto, Kitchener, Ottawa, Northern Ontario, Montreal, Atlantic)/CKPR (Thunder Bay)
1:00 Carolina at Cincinnati N/A
1:00 Pittsburgh at Cleveland N/A
1:00 Green Bay at Miami FOX (BC, Alberta)/CTV (Vancouver, Alberta, Saskatchewan)/CITL (Lloydminster)
4:05 San Diego at Oakland CBS (Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Northwestern Ontario, Western Ontario, Midwestern Ontario, Golden Horseshoe, GTA, Peterborough, Ottawa)
4:25 Chicago at Atlanta FOX (Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Northwestern Ontario, Western Ontario, Midwestern Ontario, Ottawa)/TSN1/TSN3/TSN4/TSN5
4:25 Dallas at Seattle FOX (BC, Alberta, Northern Ontario, Golden Horseshoe, GTA, Eastern Ontario (except Ottawa), Quebec, Eastern Canada)/CTV (Toronto, Kitchener, Ottawa, Northern Ontario, Montreal, Vancouver, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Winnipeg)/CTV2 (Atlantic)/CKPR (Thunder Bay/CITL (Lloydminster)
4:25 Washington at Arizona N/A
8:30 NY Giants at Philadelphia NBC/TSN1/TSN3/TSN4/TSN5
Monday
8:30 San Francisco at St. Louis TSN1/TSN3/TSN4/TSN5

So 10 out of 15 games being shown.  Not bad.  Not great.  I am perplexed as to why no one decided to put the Bengals-Panthers game on either a CTV or TSN station since both teams are over .500 and both are looking like they will contend in their divisions.  Thanks to local CBS or FOX affiliates, we get such “outstanding” matchups like Lions-Vikings or Chargers-Raiders (note: I put this game in not because the Chargers are bad.  They are very good this year.  It’s just that the Raiders would struggle playing college teams.)

And yes….the Patriots and Bills are on FOX.  I still believe they should do away with the AFC on CBS and NFC on FOX deal.  Make the networks bid at the start of the season for the games (regardless of when they are to air).  NBC goes first for Sunday night, then CBS and FOX each get two alternating picks.  Then let ESPN pick their Monday nighter, the NFL Network (or CBS) picks the Thursday nighter, then the rest of the games are chosen by CBS and FOX in alternating fashion.  Or have them pick them on a four-week delay so that, for example, NBC doesn’t get stuck with a horrible game in week 15 because both teams played much worse than expected.  See this makes too much sense so it probably will never happen.

Picks – Sponsored by Bo Pelini

Three weeks.  Three losses each week.  Yes, I am the Bo Pelini of ProLine Pools.

Here are my picks for the week:

Indianapolis over Houston

Jacksonville over Tennessee

Baltimore over Tampa Bay

Denver over NY Jets (this one could get ugly)

Minnesota over Detroit

Buffalo over New England (mild upset)

Cincinnati over Carolina

Pittsburgh over Cleveland

Green Bay over Miami

San Diego over Oakland

Chicago over Atlanta

Seattle over Dallas (the Cowboys aren’t THAT good)

Arizona over Washington

NY Giants over Philadelphia

San Francisco over St. Louis

NFL schedule is pretty much set and we shouldn’t see any changes before Sunday.  Nice to see that, even without time-shifting, I get six out of the seven games being shown during the day on Sunday.  A nice spread.  I still think with the amount of CTVs and TSNs there are, there is no reason not to add a game or two during the week but I can’t complain really.

  1. With Gurley suspended for the rest of this season, will Missouri win a close game or will it be a blowout tomorrow?
